Message from Director of Nursing

Sydney Children's Hospital

At Sydney Children's Hospital we pride ourselves on offering a highly supportive work environment for nurses along with numerous opportunities for learning and skills enhancement.

We encourage diversification in the workplace giving nurses the chance to experience a variety of clinical settings; research, education or management and we have programs in each of these areas to support the novice.

Our nursing personnel are encouraged to contribute to the development of policies and guidelines that govern their work and to challenge the "old" ways of doing things.

Transition Principles are used to assist with your integration into our team.

  • A person centred work culture is one which focuses on people rather than processes. We have a nurturing environment which equally values personal growth and professional development. It is an approach where team work and inclusiveness promote effective patient care.
  • Our flexible structure recognises that different people need different types and levels of support. Your orientation is tailored to meet your needs and allows for flexible approaches to career development.
  • Your nursing career is a commitment to lifelong learning. SCH offers a supportive learning environment that enables the development of both professional and clinical skills through offering a variety of learning opportunities.
  • The Transition Framework allows for meaningful, regular feedback in addition to more formal feedback at three months, then annually, enabling the achievement of shared goals.
  • Your orientation is designed to ensure that new staff are socialised into the workplace culture, are provided access to the information, training and education required to fulfil their work role, and are welcomed to the work team.

The work is challenging but the rewards are truly outstanding. If paediatric nursing interests you, please read on learn more about us.
