First year registered nurse transition at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick

As part of the recent reforms in health, Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick has formed a network with Children's Hospital Westmead, and this is known as Sydney Children's Hospitals Network. This amalgamation has brought together the two premier children's hospitals in NSW to form the largest network of children's services in Australia, offering a wide range of world class care for children and their families.

What does the first year transition involve?

At Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick we aim to provide you with a supported transition as a first year registered nurse to the paediatric clinical setting. The program is twelve months in duration and consists of study days to expand general paediatric knowledge and skills, two clinical rotations, peer and individualised support and completion of mandatory clinical skills. When does the next intake commence?

The Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick RN transition (1st year) will commence in 2013. There will be three intakes; one each in January, April and July. At interview you can offer preference for which intake you would like to be considered. You will need to consider your availability carefully as intake dates cannot be changed.

How many positions are offered at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick for 1st year transitioning RN's?

Positions will be considered in a range of clinical areas across the organisation, with two six month rotations in the 12 month contracted period. The number of positions offered is reviewed annually and can be clarified at time of interview.

Application eligibility

Applicants must be eligible for registration prior to the agreed commencement of employment date. For example if you will be finishing your undergraduate degree midyear, then you will only be eligible for the July 2013 intake. Applicants wishing to commence in January 2013, must be registered before commencing employment.

How to apply

All applications for a position within the 2013 1st year transitioning RN at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick must be made online via the Nursing & Midwifery Office. No applications outside of this process will be considered.

When are the interviews?

Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick will be interviewing all applicants who selected Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick as first preference. The interviews will be in August. If you are unable to attend interview in person due to distance or concurrent practicum please advise in the comment section on the application. Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick will offer telephone interviews, however it is highly recommended that you attend interviews in person. What do I bring to interview?

The interview requirements are clearly outlined in the Graduate Nurse and RN & Midwives Recruitment guideline 2013. All documents outlined must be brought to interview; if you do not bring all documents to interview you may not be interviewed.
