Rotary Charity Regatta 2001

The Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick has again been confirmed as one of the beneficiaries of the Rotary Charity Regatta which will set sail for the seventh year in a row on Friday, 16 November from the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, Rushcutters Bay.

Since its inception, the Charity Regatta has raised over $700,000 for many worthy causes - with $255,000 over the past 4 years being donated to the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick. These funds have helped to purchase life-saving medical equipment including a Cardiac Surgery Transoesophageal Probe which is essential to providing the best standard of care for seriously ill children with severe heart problems.

In an effort to make this year's event an even greater success, organisers are seeking the assistance of the corporate and local community and other groups to become involved. Yacht or motor cruiser owners are asked to donate their crafts which individuals or organisations may then sponsor or pay to go on board. Individuals or organisations could also choose the option of watching the Regatta in style on board a Captain Cook Cruiser.

Greg Prowse, President of the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove said: 'We hope that all yacht clubs and yacht owners around Sydney will assist in making this event a real success.

'As well as the Regatta being a great opportunity for organisations to thank their clients and staff, it will also benefit many seriously ill children.'

Each year, the Sydney Children's Hospital relies heavily on support from groups such as the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove and the many organisations that support their annual Regatta. This support really helps make a difference to the lives of children treated at the Hospital every day.

Professor Les White, Executive Director, Sydney Children's Hospital says: 'The Sydney Children's Hospital have been very fortunate to have the support of the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove over the years. We are extremely appreciative of that assistance and delighted to have the opportunity to be involved with such a wonderful event again this year.'
