Nicole Kidman Hosts ‘The Golden Compass’ Special Screening for seriously ill Children, their Familles and Staff at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.
Christmas came early today for hundreds of patients, their families and staff of Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick when Nicole Kidman gave them a very special gift – a private screening of her new film, ‘The Golden Compass’. Nicole Kidman, Hoyts Cinemas, and Roadshow Films hosted the screening, providing treats and gift bags for all.
Five long term patients and their families had a special treat, spending private time with Nicole before she met all the patients, their families and staff prior to the film screening in the full cinema.
Thanking Nicole for her kindness and support and presenting her with flowers on behalf of all attending was seven year old cancer patient Cooper Smeaton. He met Nicole at last year’s ‘Happy Feet’ screening which Nicole also hosted for the Hospital. After months of intense chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, he has now finished treatment and returned home to Forster.
'You put a big smile on all our faces and make us feel happy. Thank you for everything you do for us, we love you' said Cooper.
Nicole Kidman AC has been an Ambassador of Sydney Children’s Hospital for over six years. She visits regularly, brightening the day of children suffering from a range of conditions including brain tumours, leukaemia and neurological diseases and their families.
Elizabeth Crundall, Chief Executive of Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation said, “We’re deeply grateful to Nicole for her constant generosity to patients, their families and staff. For many of the children who attended, this screening was a rare and welcome break from fighting serious illness in Hospital. Nicole’s ongoing support, kindness and dedication is extraordinary and this special screening is a wonderful gift, particularly during the Christmas season,” she said.
‘The Golden Compass’ is an epic fantasy adventure, based on Philip Pullman’s best-selling and award winning first novel in the ‘His Dark Materials’ trilogy.
