COMMUNITY SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Traffic changes during construction of new hospital wing
Construction will commence on the new Clinical Services Wing for Sydney Children’s Hospital (SCH) on Wednesday, 5 October 2011.
Once complete, the new wing will provide Hospital staff with the space and resources needed to continue delivering world class health care, as well as providing a more comfortable environment for patients and families.
The five storey wing will be located next to the existing building, on the site of the external accessible car park on Hospital Road, Randwick.
While construction is underway, SCH will be operating as normal, with children continuing to receive access to specialist health care.
Building works will be undertaken by Broad Construction Services (NSW/VIC) Pty Ltd, the company recently awarded the government tender for this project. Broad Construction Services (NSW/VIC) Pty Ltd will be working closely with hospital management and Health Infrastructure to ensure building works are conducted safely and efficiently, with minimal disruption to the local community.
During the construction period, the below traffic changes will be in place. All traffic changes will be clearly signed and are essential to the safe construction of the new wing.
• Part of Hospital Road will convert to a one-way street
Hospital Road is adjacent to the Hospital's High Street front entrance. During the construction period, this street will be converted to a one-way street, from High Street to Delivery Drive;
• Relocation of accessible car spaces
The five accessible car spaces currently on the site of the new building will be relocated to five clearly signed car spaces only metres away, on Hospital Road - outside the Fairy Garden, and;
• Reversed direction under 'the wave' - patient drop off zone
Cars entering the driveway in front of the Hospital's High street main entrance (under 'the wave') will now need to follow temporary signs, directing all drivers to enter the driveway from the Hospital Road entrance, NOT the High street entrance.
Building works are scheduled for completion in early 2013.
