Police Commissioner Peter Ryan officially opens Admissions Centre at SCH,R

On Thursday, 23rd September at 11.30am, Police Commissioner Peter Ryan QPM will officially open the Children's Admissions Centre at the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, which is proudly sponsored by The Cornucopia Committee Inc.

Over the past 36 years, The Cornucopia Committee Inc, one of Australia's leading charity organisations, has raised several million dollars to enable children who have been physically and sexually abused to be counselled and cared for at Child Protection Units throughout New South Wales.

The Sydney Children's Hospital, Child Protection Team, at Randwick cares for abused children who range in age from very young babies to adolescence. Babies and young children are often presented with broken bones, bruising, burns and head injuries; the tragic and near fatal consequences, of the difficulties parents and society have in coping with the responsibility of caring for children.

In recognition of the continuing support of Child Protection Services by The Cornucopia Committee, the newly opened and highly visible Admissions Centre at Sydney Children's Hospital will acknowledge their support.

Police Commissioner Peter Ryan said, 'I am honoured to be able to officially open Children's Admissions Centre at Sydney Children's Hospital on behalf of The Cornucopia Committee Inc. The support of the Committee ensures that children who have been abused receive the care and treatment they need in a safe and appropriate environment where they feel secure and are valued.'

Ms Cara Brett Hall, Chairman of the Cornucopia Committee said, 'The Cornucopia Committee is extremely proud to support the Child Protection Unit at Sydney Children's Hospital. We feel we are achieving our goal of helping to make people more aware of the problems that children and their families have to deal with and the importance of child protection.'

The Cornucopia Committee is run by a high profile team of committed volunteers. Without the dedicated support of charity organisations like the Cornucopia Committee, the Hospital would not be able to extend its reach into the community and make a difference to the lives of the brave young patients who require its support.

Professor Les White, Executive Director of Sydney Children's Hospital said, 'The tireless efforts of The Cornucopia Committee in raising the community's awareness to the extremely important area of Child Protection is very much appreciated. Their continuing financial support enables the Hospital to enhance the scope of our existing Child Protection services to the direct benefit of those children and families who require our very specialised care.'

The Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for child health with a full range of specialist services treating children from all over NSW and Australia.
