Commonwealth Bank & Staff Support Sick Kids
The staff of Commonwealth Bank presented a cheque for $46,000 to the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick on Tuesday, 23 May 2000 - the funds raised going directly towards purchasing a ventilator for the brave young patients in the Intensive Care Unit at the Hospital.
Since World Ward I, fortnightly deductions from the pay and pensions of current and retired staff members have been made into the Commonwealth Bank Staff Community Fund to help support causes that help sick and disadvantaged children in Australia.
Mark Phillips, Chairman of the Commonwealth Bank Staff Community Fund said that being able to help organisations such as the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick gave members great satisfaction:
'By contributing what they can on a regular basis, Bank staff, past and present, enable the Fund to provide assistance - which makes a real difference to the welfare of the community. By purchasing the ventilator, it is a good example of what can be achieved by the Fund's members working together.'
